Jobs and work in general are of great significance to the individual and society. A good job is one that is both personally and professionally fulfilling, that challenges and allows a person to grow. High payment along with happiness and passion are the most critical factors for choosing a job. Personal traits, skills and abilities, education, training, interests and working conditions play a crucial role, too.

ACTOR

An actor is an artist who participates in a theatre performance, a film, a movie or a television series. He must be good at Drama and should know how to act.

Being a good actor is not easy. He must have a good memory to remember his words. He should rehearse a lot to get into the role and learn to cooperate with other colleagues. He should have a passion for performing and entertaining and the ability to enter into another character and engage with an audience.

Good stage, reading and speaking skills, good understanding of dramatic techniques, confidence and creativity are key qualities for this job. However, lack of focus or self-doubt are some of the weaknesses.

Acting can be really fun and actors are required to analyse and study a character's behaviour and emotions. There is no need for college education but dance, acting and history classes are useful.

CAR MECHANIC

An auto mechanic deals with examining and repairing the car engine, the brakes and other basic mechanical parts of the car. He carefully examines the system of the car he is going to repair in order to locate the fault and determine its type. A car mechanic changes filters, oils, spark plugs and uses special instruments to keep cars and trucks in condition for driving.

Good practical and problem-solving skills, understanding of basic math and how machines work along with other technical information are all needed. Dexterity and attention to detail are also important because the mechanic works with dangerous tools and can be electocuted. The hardest part is working with hands and physical labor.

A car mechanic has high responsibility for people's lives and should be hard-working and reliable. He may take a college course or attend non-degree training programs at a technical school for 6-12 months.

CHEF

A chef may work in a restaurant or a hotel. He/she usually wakes up very early and is always on his/her feet. The hardest thing in this job is working long hours.

As a chef one must be passionate about the job, patient and kind to everyone. Organization, teamwork, cooperation, speed and creativity are needed, too. Head chefs, especially, have to manage an entire kitchen and try to satisfy customers, whatever the demand.

If one wants to be a chef, he/she needs to attend culinary school and then practise for some years.

The most satisfying thing about this career is making others happy. People always like good food, so the future of this job seems bright.

CHIEF MARINE OFFICER

Being a chief marine officer is very interesting. He travels around the world and goes on sea voyages.

He repairs the ship engines and he has to study at a merchant marine academy. In order to become a chief officer, one must take exams after completing 18 months of sea time and then take another exam after another 18 months to qualify to become a captain of a ship. The most difficult part of this job is being in the sea for a long time because there is danger due to the bad weather.

A chief officer is the second responsible person after the captain and maintains the safety of the ship and the welfare of the crew. He is the head of the deck department and he is responsible for the cargo operation, the life saving and fire fighting appliances.

DOCTOR

The profession of a doctor is difficult and time-consuming but necessary. A doctor helps people in need, gives them medicine and has to hold an academic degree. The studies last 6 years.

As a person, a doctor should be communal and very careful. He/she may work in a hospital and perform surgery or at his/her office and be on stand by in case of an emergency.

A doctor can become a general practitioner or specialize in a certain field. Medical specialties include cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics, opthalmology, otorhinolaryngology and others.

Last, a doctor does vaccinations, health checkups and treats coughs, colds and stomach flu. In general, it is one of the hardest careers.

ELECTRICIAN

The profession of an electrician is constantly evolving and has to do with digital tecnology. A degree in Electrical Engineering or various related fields is needed along with work experience.

An electrician may be at his office or work at a construction site. He should be responsible, careful, smart and serious so that there are no problems in the facilities. However, he should anticipate mistakes. The hardest part of the job is installing the electrics because he needs to dig walls and floors.

The future of this specialty is artificial intelligence and the smart home.

FARMER

The job of a farmer is hard and tiring. He works in a field and, if it is big, he needs help. He should be strong to carry sacks and crates and he has to love nature.

A farmer should have organizational, farm operational and crops management skills. Also, he has to be calm and think logically without stress. The hardest part of the job is the bad weather and the disasters it may cause.

There are different types of farmers . Shepherds raise sheep and goats, dairy farmers are engaged in milk production, poultry farmers raise chickens, turkeys, ducks or geese for meat, egg or feather production and truck farmers or market gardeners raise vegetables for the market.

In general, a farmer is engaged in agriculture and raises field crops, vineyards, poultry or grows plants with labour and attention. He may own a farm land or work as a laborer on land owned by others.

FIREFIGHTER

A firefighter saves lives but works in an unhealthy environment. He puts out fires and may have health problems such as lung disease. He must be strong, healthy and good at running.

Firefighters rescue people from dangerous situations such as burning buildings or crashed vehicles. They work closely with the police and the emergency medical service. Also, they must have courage and put fear aside in order to do their job safely and effectively.

A firefighter works long shifts and needs constant training. He should be physically fit and know how to operate powerful equipment. The most stressfull thing is being responsible for people's well-being. That's why he has to be intelligent, compassionate and a good listener. Finally, muscular strength, endurance and reaction time are important, too.

FOOTBALL PLAYER

In order to follow the profession of a football player one needs to be involved in the gym class from his school life.

It is also important, but not necesary, to know a foreign language in the event that in the future he develops into a professional and becomes an international soccer player.

The abilities/skills he must have are, above all, excellent physical condition. As a character, he must be mild-mannered, sociable, cooperative and possess a team spirit.

He works in football field and the working conditions are demanding so that there is good cooperation with the rest of his teammates and his coach.

GYMNAST

To become a gymnast you must study at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (TEFAA). The studies last for four years. In order to get a degree, in addition to courses, one should take exams in some sports.

A gymnast can work in a school, in a gym or become a personal trainer. As in all professions, it is essential to love the job, adapt to the needs of the work, be patient and help those who cannot manage to do exercises that are difficult. And most importantly, the appearance should always be athletic and decent.

Gymnastics is a type of sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength and flexibility. A gymnast helps people keep fit and be healthy.

HAIRDRESSER

A hairdresser washes, cuts, colours and styles people's hair. She uses tools like scissors, brushes and dryers. She can use shampoos, conditioners, lotions, gel and spray. Moreover, she advises others how to take care of their hair at home.

A hairdresser needs to go to an academy for 12 months, then gain practical experience for 24 months and be good at Biology, Chemistry and Science. It is important for her to be creative and have imagination and communication skills. She should be hardworking, self-confident, able to work quickly and respect the clients' wishes, too.

However, the hardest part of the job is the exhaustion and making people look beautiful and feeling happy with the result. Kindness and eagerness to work are also key qualities.

HORSERIDING TRAINER

A horseriding trainer should know horseriding very well. He/She needs to learn how to look after horses, how to tack them and how to feed them. He/She goes to the stables early in the morning and cleans them.

A horseriding trainer has lessons, trains the horses per month and teaches people how to ride them. He\She needs to be polite with the riders, friendly and an animal lover.

Riding a horse can be very dangerous and one should be careful not to fall, get kicked or get hurt. Horses are strong and can kill people with their neck or legs. Most of their power is in their neck. Riders should stay balanced and know how to communicate with their horse and give it orders from the seat, legs or reins.

A riding instructor teaches methods of horseriding and helps riders improve their style and technique. He/She serves as a coach in competitions and may work at a riding school or a training centre. It takes two years for someone to learn to ride a horse (one lesson per week).

KARATE TEACHER

A karate teacher needs to train hard every day when he is young, listen to his instructor and join a Dojo. He must hold a black belt, have discipline and help his students learn martial arts.

A karate teacher should be patient, obedient and a fighter. He has to follow the rules and, after years of training, he can join competitions and tournaments so as to reach the top and win medals. Being smart and quick can help him beat the opponent. However, he must respect the other players and play fair.

When time has passed and he has gained all the belts, he can be a karate instructor, open his own Dojo and have his own students. He teaches them self-defense in groups or in private lessons, shows techniques and monitors their progress in punching, kicking and knee or elbow strikes. Finally, he encourages students, guides them and passes on his knowledge.

PASTRY CHEF

Working as a pastry chef is very hard and tiring. He/she may work long hours at a candy store making cookies, doughnuts, birthday cakes, chocolates and more. That's why he/she needs to be patient, calm and good at drawing and designing.

If someone wants to be a pastry chef, he/she needs to go to confectionery school for 2 years or have a Certificate in Culinary Arts, Baking, Patisserie or a relevant field. He/she should know how to work under pressure and be a creative person that comes up with new ideas and tries new recipes everyday. Attention to detail, organization skills and knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques are also very important.

The most satisfying thing about this job is watching the excitement on people's faces when they taste sweets and other goodies. As a result, the future of this job looks fantastic because people like desserts and will never stop eating them.

PILOT

A pilot is a person that controls the flight by operating directional controls. He travels around the world, talks to the passengers and he should have good sight.

He needs to go to university and later train and learn how to fly a plane. The hardest part of the job is when there is bad weather.

A pilot should have a good understanding of maths and physics, good communication and teamwork skills, excellent spatial awareness and coordination and ability to remain calm under pressure. He has to know technical information and be able to think quickly and make decisions in difficult situations.

POLICEMAN

The job of a policeman is hard and risky. He must help and protect people from thieves and criminals. He should also be calm, brave and strong, especially in dangerous situations.

A policeman may work day or night shifts and wears a blue uniform and a bulletproof vest. Blue colour symbolizes protection. He is sometimes plain-clothed in order to pass off as a member of the public and make arrests.

He always responds to emergencies or accidents. He should go through training and have problem-solving skills. Some of his duties include patrolling areas, speaking to victims of crimes and witnesses, searching for evidence, investigating what has happened, interviewing suspects, taking statements, giving evidence in court and keeping the peace.

It is possible to become a police officer both with or without a degree. Taking a degree in policing usually lasts for three years. After graduation, one can apply to join the police.

TEACHER

The job of a teacher is not easy. Love for students and patience are necessary because the children will not always be obedient.

A teacher needs to be good at all the school subjects and has to go to the university for four years. Communication skills are also important in order to get across messages, since he/she is the person that helps students acquire knowledge.

A good teacher should be polite, funny and have good speech and imagination to make creative projects with pupils. He/she is responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Their duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress.

The best reason to be a teacher is that he/she makes a positive, inspiring impact on children's lives.

VET

In order to be a vet one needs to have skills like conscientiousness, self-sufficiency, consistency, observation, sensitivity, great attention, seriousness, responsibility and love for animals and the job. He/she should also have knowledge of Science, Chemistry, Anatomy and Biology.

A vet takes care of animals and helps when they are sick. Patience, love and kindness are important qualities, too. His skills include examining animals, talking to pet owners about their pet's condition, preparing and taking care of equipment and supplies.

The profession of a vet demands long days, unpredictable cases and knowledge of vetinery medicine.
