The Rise of Artificial Intelligence

...and how it could change the world for the better

The term Artificial Intelligence was first coined in the 50s. And has been used since for many things, but has mostly been seen in science fiction works. But now, in 2025, we are seeing the beginning of AI’s use in almost everything. Some think AI is only good for creating fake dancing dog videos, spreading misinformation, and helping students cheat. Or companies just use it for marketing.

But AI can be more than that, at least that's what one Lipscomb student believes. PR major Lorelai Kline was initially hesitant about using AI.

Lorelai says, "I have a brother who's an animation major and artist, life, I've always heard that Al was going to take over the world, so my intro was kind of a scary monster, and then learning more about it, it's only going to help them."

During an AI event training for faculty, Kline shared her experience with the tool and how it can improve lives. She created a bot named "Morgan", designed to help her friend Hannah understand social cues and assist in case of a seizure.

Lorelai says, "When Hannah has a seizure, there are certain protocols she needs to follow, and then I can tell a bot to follow these procedures. As far as understanding when she's having a seizure...take her pills and here's what you need to do when she's having a seizure"

Hannah Fritsch says she's grateful that her friend Lorelai was able to offer support in a way that also reflects her interests.

During the training event, an expert shared that Lipscomb is ahead of the curve regarding AI literacy compared to most universities and that the next few years will be crucial for education.

Kline has a message for those hesitant to embrace this technology.

Lorelai says, "Do research into it, and you'll find out. Then, you'll see it's not as scary as it looks."

Professor Gibson and some faculty hope that all Lipscomb students will have access to BootleBox starting next semester.
