OWN FEAST

Growing up, the kitchen was always Peter Kuruvita’s favourite place. The heady mix of fragrant spices, the warmth of smoke and steam, and the happy music of chatter and laughter were the ingredients that inspired his creativity and ignited his passion.
To Peter, cooking brings back that simple joy he experienced in his ancestral home in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with his grandmother and aunts – and has become the way he shares that joy with others. These memories have helped shape his stellar career as one of Australia’s leading chefs.
Peter Kuruvita launched into the spotlight by starting the Flying Fish Restaurant & Bar in Sydney, which he led as Executive Chef for eight years, and he opened Flying Fish Fiji in Fiji during 2008. In 2013, he opened Noosa Beach House, then followed that with Alba Noosa in 2021.
His glittering career gathered further star power with three books – Serendip: My Sri Lankan Kitchen, My Feast with Peter Kuruvita, and Lands of the Curry Leaf. He’s also repeatedly appeared on the small screen through Island Feast with Peter Kuruvita, Mexican Fiesta with Peter Kuruvita, Peter Kuruvita’s Coastal Kitchen, and My Sri Lanka with Peter Kuruvita.
Peter recently held four live cooking demonstrations for guests at Club Wyndham Phillip Island and Club Wyndham Dunsborough. More than 100 guests had the privilege of cooking along with the master chef, creating popcorn prawn skewers and kottu roti, a popular street food in Sri Lanka.
Peter’s partnership with us served to highlight the mouth-watering tastes of South Pacific and Sri Lankan cooking, enrich the experience of club owners and guests, and demonstrate the ability families have to create their own feasts and memories using their apartment-style club accommodation, particularly at these two club favourites.
Peter’s appearance ignited inspiration for many Club Wyndham South Pacific owners, who took to either their home kitchens or their holiday kitchens (in self-contained club apartments) to add flavour to their social feeds with their gourmet creations and make memories of their own with their families.
The competition prize was a three-night getaway and a signed copy of one of Peter’s books.
The partnership with Peter was also a catalyst for our online series of maps and travel guides. As the great chef himself has said repeatedly, food is an important part of the DNA of a country, culture or community and you can’t really get to know the region well without trying local dishes!
