Engaging Clients and Partners: Collaboration for Greater Impact

We strengthen our impact in the community through partnership with clients and collaborators who share our commitment to service and inclusion. In 2025, DWT partnered with in‑house legal teams on pro bono matters, social impact initiatives, and DEI programming. These collaborations not only mobilized more advocates for justice, but also allowed us to work closely with our corporate clients and do more good in the world. Through large-scale service efforts, signature collaborations and external DEI engagement, we leveraged opportunities for growth, connection, and purpose. Together, these collaborations demonstrate how aligned values and collective participation can drive lasting impact for our communities.

Pro Bono & Social Impact Partnerships

In 2025, we scaled our positive impact in our communities through 42 days of service with volunteers from 47 companies. Together, we completed veteran discharge upgrade reviews, helped asylum seekers apply for work authorization, conducted research to help formerly incarcerated individuals reunite with their families, mapped racially restrictive covenants, separately supported both seniors and transgender individuals in accessing vital healthcare, assisted with the sealing or expunging of criminal records, and helped clients understand and access vital benefits. In addition, we drafted name and gender-marker change documents and prepared supporting materials for immigration applications.

DAY OF SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

Financial Institution Pro Bono Day

In the spring, we celebrated Financial Institution Pro Bono Day, a dedicated day of service organized by Corporate Pro Bono to support in-house volunteers from financial institutions across the nation in giving back. We hosted four pro bono events and were joined by 146 volunteers from DWT and 23 in-house legal teams. Volunteers participated in an intake clinic with The Veterans Consortium, helping to serve 17 veterans with their discharge upgrade applications, assisted 22 individuals with their expungement petitions in partnership with Legal Aid Chicago, mapped 584 racially restrictive property deeds during a session with Mapping Segregation in Washington D.C., and learned about how to empower and protect survivors of scams at a CLE with the Scam Justice Legal Clinic.

DAY OF SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

Pro Bono Week

In the fall, we celebrated National Pro Bono Week alongside 220 participants from DWT and 20 in-house legal teams. Volunteers staffed a RAP analysis clinic in which they analyzed 253 convictions across 188 cases. The founding partners of the Scam Justice Legal Clinic—Amazon, Better Business Bureau Institute for Marketplace Trust, Pro Bono Institute, and DWT—also hosted an engaging educational program sharing insights into the latest scam trends and cutting-edge legal resources available to survivors. Lastly, in partnership with DWT’s Office of DEI, we hosted a powerful discussion with Anthony Ray Hinton, a renowned author, activist, and former death-row inmate, who shared his exoneration story following 30 years on death row for crimes he did not commit and perspectives on system reform. The panel was moderated by DWT Pro Bono Attorney Sara Doody and DWT Associate Soraya Mohamed.

Signature Programming

In-House Pro Bono Summit

The In-House Pro Bono Summit is an educational program that DWT pioneered and has offered every fall exclusively for in-house legal departments. In its seventh season, the summit has proven to be an impressive convening of the changemakers in the field. Each year, panelists explore new topics that relate to the role that in-house teams play in bridging the access to justice gap, provide important insights into the ethical rules that apply to in-house lawyers and staff doing pro bono, and share creative and inspiring ways in-house legal departments continue to meet the moment.

Our 2025 In-House Pro Bono Summit featured three dynamic panels with speakers from organizations including Amazon, Microsoft, The Walt Disney Company, Flynn Group, the Pro Bono Institute, and the University of Michigan Law School. The panels explored how companies can build strategic pro bono initiatives that both address critical justice gaps and align with business priorities; crystalized what meaningful pro bono engagement looks like for in-house teams in 2025; and examined the growing role of artificial intelligence in strengthening pro bono work while navigating ethical considerations. The event welcomed more than 250 attendees from in-house legal departments nationwide and highlighted innovative approaches, practical guidance, and inspiring examples of how legal professionals can leverage their expertise, technology, and partnerships to deliver meaningful impact for underserved communities.
