Trusted partners in digital innovation
Digital adoption is about more than technology alone. We work with a range of organisations to ensure they gain the skills, confidence and understanding necessary for responsible adoption. This is essential for achieving successful digital transformation and delivering lasting impact.
"Cutting-edge digital technology can only deliver its full potential when people have the skills to use it. Training is the link between new technology and organisational change."
Rachel Williamson, Training Assurance Lead at the Hartree Centre
Digital technology upskilling
We develop applicable and accessible training that equips learners with the skills needed to adopt and apply advanced digital technologies, helping individuals and organisations develop and innovate more efficiently and effectively.
Our training is focused on real-world application. By combining practical examples and case studies with grounding in fundamental knowledge, participants gain valuable insights into how advanced digital technologies can be used to address real challenges faced across research and industries.
Our courses are designed by training specialists and delivered by technical experts who bring first-hand knowledge and experience, ensuring participants leave with the confidence and capability to turn knowledge into impact. With courses spanning all digital technologies from AI to quantum classical computing and delivered across four proficiency levels, from beginner to practitioner.
"The most noticeable thing about the Hartree Centre courses is that they’re delivered by people that are doing it. It feels very relevant rather than purely academic."

Over 60 of our technology experts have completed CPD-accredited train-the-trainer training
Over half of our training courses are CPD accredited
Our training is delivered through a variety of methods, including self-paced online learning, interactive workshops, and expert-led seminars. This enables learners to access training in a way that best suits their preferences.
We also collaborate with organisations to develop personalised training programmes, ensuring we meet specific training needs and objectives by mapping it to capability frameworks.
Our training team is committed to making training accessible and suitable for a broad and diverse range of communities. To expand the adoption of digital technologies by reducing barriers to entry, our team is developing training material to help expand digital accessibility by working on programmes like the National Federated Compute Services, which aims to build a national network of distributed compute services. As a part of this programme, we worked with UCL to understand how people engage with national compute services and help widen engagement, reduce challenges to participation and ensure more people can benefit from federated computing.
The active dissemination of our research and activity at international conferences supports understanding and the advancement of different technology fields across the community. Participating in and contributing to these events creates opportunities for collaboration with other organisations, enabling us to support advancement in the research community whilst working towards our mission.
Responsible technology adoption
We’re helping organisations overcome safety and security barriers to digital adoption, enabling them to embrace emerging technologies with confidence and adopt them in a safe, responsible and effective way.

We are currently collaborating with ORCHA to explore the potential risks associated with the use of AI in healthcare apps. With 340,000+ healthcare applications available, ensuring they are safe, trustworthy, and ethical is essential.
Impact:
This work focuses on developing a new tool to evaluate and score healthcare apps against key AI criteria, helping to identify potential risks and support informed decision-making.
"The same AI tool carries a different risk in a busy A&E than it does in a patient's living room. Working with the Hartree Centre lets us test whether that assessment can run at scale against real technical evidence, which is what turns a method into something a health system can rely on."
Tim Andrew, Founding President and Chief Operating Officer at ORCHA
Maximising value with technology
We help organisations apply technologies in innovative ways, enabling them to identify new opportunities, maximise value from their data and drive continued investment, with 87% of the organisations we have worked with expecting to increase their investment in digital technologies in the coming years.
Our activity:
Working in collaboration with Lloyd’s of London, we explored new approaches for identifying emerging risks and understanding how they interact. This is particularly important for the insurance sector, where risks can evolve rapidly and have significant consequences.
Impact:
This project involved the creation of a proof of concept which applied graph analytic techniques to help identify and quantify emerging risks based on horizon scanning techniques. By increasing understanding around threats, it could help insurers assess risk more effectively and inform future decisions in a rapidly changing landscape.
"The HNCDI team's expertise complemented key gaps in our technical data and software capabilities, while Lloyd's contributed the practical market perspective needed to ensure relevance and applicability. This combination of strengths created a highly effective and collaborative working environment"
Samantha Dickens, Manager in Underwriting Solutions, Market Performance & Strategy at Lloyd’s of London
