Telethon is proud to celebrate the continuous support for these programs:

How your generosity is reshaping childhood for generations to come

Whole genome sequencing: answers in months, not years

Rare diseases can be devastating. Many families will not know the name or have a diagnosis for the disease their child has been born with. Often the diagnosis is so rare it robs the family of planning their future.

Families searching for answers to rare or undiagnosed conditions once waited up to two years for whole genome results, often travelling interstate or abroad for testing. Because of your generosity, families now have access to a Telethon supported genomic sequencing service with results delivered in as little as four months.

Over 100 families have already completed testing, with the first diagnosis delivered during the 2025 Telethon Weekend, a milestone symbolising hope for families.

West Australian families can now access this life-changing service at no cost, giving them answers sooner and helping them to plan and connect with early support that shapes a brighter future for their child.

A place of care,
comfort and courage

Lady Lawley Cottage, supported by Rocky Bay, is more than a building. This cherished heritage site has been restored as a fully accessible therapy and respite centre, offering early intervention programs, family accommodation and, importantly, a safe space for families to take a breath.

Telethon’s contribution supports specialist children’s respite beds and accessible equipment ensuring that children with disability, complex medical need and who require palliative care can stay in a safe, homelike environment that still meets the highest clinical standards.

For regional families, accessing essential therapy in Perth has long meant navigating travel logistics and expensive accommodation before therapy even begins. Now, families will have a place that surrounds them with comfort, connection, and community.

Transforming youth
mental health care

For 30 years, Youth Focus has provided a free, safe, specialist service for young people to access youth counselling services in school and in community. With Telethon’s investment, Youth Focus is now building WA’s first purpose built, integrated Perth Youth Mental Health Hub, offering wraparound care under one roof for the 207,000 West Australians currently experiencing mental illness.

This will be a trauma informed, safe place where a young person can walk in and be met with wrap around service provision including mental health clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrists and GPs, cultural and family supports and care navigators.

Every room will be intentionally designed for privacy, safety, and emotional comfort, shaped by the voices of young people and carers themselves. Its opening will mark a new era of care: faster access, fewer silos, and no wrong door.

Supporting young
minds in the Pilbara

While metropolitan services strengthen, Telethon is ensuring regional children aren’t left behind. Anglicare WA’s new Bounce Wellbeing Program is changing the mental health trajectory for children aged 8–13 across both inland and coastal Pilbara.
